Moving into courage - Part 2

Moving into courage - Part 2

Some of you may recall that my family and I were preparing to move half-way across the country this summer.

I will just say once again - moving across the country is no small feat! And while there were a few unexpected bumps along the road (pun absolutely intended!), we finally made it to our new home. Our furniture also finally arrived. Boxes are getting unpacked. (And I'm staying on the lookout for any stowaway ‘passengers’, to borrow from ACT.) My new office is set up. I’m no longer connected with a group practice. Flying solo.

Ohhh, this is where the passengers show up. A few of them did make it into the moving truck after all!

  • You can’t have the schedule you want to have.
  • You won’t get enough clients on your own.
  • You aren't ‘expert’ enough to have your own website.
  • Blah blah blah.

It’s so interesting to reflect on the multiple ways our brains try to keep us safe by keeping us small!

So this is where I have been repeatedly flexing my courage muscles and not only talking back to those passengers, but also acting in small but courageous ways:

  • Telling a potential new client that I cannot accommodate appointments at the time they are available.
  • Contacting an existing client to ask them to shift our previously scheduled appointment time so that I can attend to my own self-care activities.
  • Taking an introductory workshop on writing website copy and creating my own imperfect practice website.

And I readily recognize that I probably would not be able to stick to this courage practice without the support and accountability of the Intentional Therapist community. There is such strength in numbers, even virtually!
