The top 5 self-care tips

The top 5 self-care tips

Sorry, the title of this blog post was a teensy bit of click-bait! Here's why:

We all want the answer to any problem, whether improving our self-care, treating anxiety, managing kids’ behaviour problems, or doing our taxes to fit neatly into a five (or fewer) step plan. It’s not our fault. We live in a ‘Top 5 Tips’ kind of world. With credit to Emily Nagoski (in Come As You Are):

“But the structure of the truth is quieter, slower, more personal, and so much more interesting than mere entertainment.”

So the bad news is that we are not going to share the top five self-care tips in this email. Because if you have been reading this newsletter for any amount of time, you will know that self-care can’t be reduced to five simple steps. And even if it could, the five steps would likely be different for each of us.

But the good news is that if we can have some patience and willingness to get honest and intentional about what really works for us, we can experience an elevated level of self-care that can truly help us to create the kind of life from which we don’t need to escape.

And even though we don’t think self-care can ever be reduced to five top tips, we do think that the four C’s - Connection, Compassion, Courage, and Creativity - offer a powerful framework for redefining our self-care.

So if you, like all of us in this modern world, are understandably yearning for a quick fix approach to self-care, but are open to the possibility that an even better solution lies outside of quick fixes, please consider joining us for our next cohort of Thrivival Skills for Therapists!

We hope you will join us to TRULY redefine your self-care.
