How are you caring for your tools?

How are you caring for your tools?

Ok, quick game - match the tool to the profession:

1) Saw 2) Scalpel 3) Scissors 4) Self
A) Carpenter B) Surgeon C) Hair Stylist D) Therapist

Yes, we made it easy: 1-A; 2-B; 3-C; 4-D

Here is what isn’t always so easy:

As mental health clinicians, we rely on ourselves just as much as a carpenter relies on a saw, a surgeon relies on a scalpel, and a hair stylist relies on their scissors. Yet, we tend not to protect and care for our self even to the degree that a carpenter protects and cares for their saw.

Just because we know on a logical level that WE are the tools of our trade, doesn’t mean that we act in ways that demonstrate this understanding. Because there are so many emotional influences - stemming from the messages we get from society, our upbringing, and even our professional training - that cause us to ignore our own needs and instead convince ourselves that we can ‘make do’ with little attention to ourselves.

Our hope is that this can change on a grand scale for all female mental health clinicians. It’s a bit of a lofty goal! But in the meantime, we invite you to take a first step and join us for our next cohort of Thrivival Skills for Therapists.

We have designed this program specifically to meet the needs of female mental health clinicians. So that our work doesn’t have to come at the expense of our well-being.

Each week of this 6 week program participants will have the opportunity to connect online with us and other like-minded female clinicians while engaging in some valuable self-reflection and courageous action steps.

We all deserve to build the kinds of flourishing lives we are helping our clients to build!
